Alex Bruce called Rotherham United's home defeat by Gillingham a 'disappointing day' and 'a bad day for all of us'. The head coach, speaking to the club's official site, said he saw little to separate the two teams before half-time and that his players started the second period well, only for the match to turn once they conceded.
According to Bruce, his team then let their heads drop and looked short of confidence, making mistakes, giving penalties away and committing what he described as silly errors. He said he could not recall Gillingham creating many opportunities, which made shipping four goals all the more disappointing, and that goals change games - the story of the match as he saw it. Rotherham, he added, had the opening ten minutes of the second half and he thought they might build on that, but Gillingham scored against the run of play.
Bruce also called it a bad week, pointing to the previous weekend's poor result against Exeter, and said he had wanted a reaction. What he got, he said, was a game dictated by the goals conceded, with mistakes, nerviness, anxiousness and edginess following. The focus now, he said, is on working hard to get through it. Marvin Kaleta was absent from the match squad after having to pull out late in the day, and the club has no update on his latest injury.
