South Yorkshire’s Deputy Mayor for Policing and Crime has offered her condolences after two people died in a crash in Rotherham.
The collision happened on East Bawtry Road on Saturday 26 September, when a white BMW 3 Series left the road and hit a lamppost.
South Yorkshire Police say the car may have been travelling with a blue BMW 4 Series before the crash. A man arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving has since been released on police bail while enquiries continue.
Kilvinder Vigurs said her thoughts were with the families, friends and everyone affected by the tragedy, describing every death on South Yorkshire’s roads as one too many.
She also said partners across the region remain committed to improving road safety, with work continuing through the South Yorkshire Safer Roads Partnership to help prevent further deaths and serious injuries.
Police are still asking anyone who saw what happened, or who has dashcam or CCTV footage from the area, to contact South Yorkshire Police quoting incident 817 of 26 September 2026.
