The Reds went into the game in the search of back-to-back league victories, taking a trip across the pennines to take on Wythenshawe, who went into the game undefeated at home this season.
The game started evenly with both teams battling it out, but it was the hosts who took the lead. A pinball in the box saw the ball fall to Olivia Dixon who made no mistake to make it 1-0.
The Reds then had a host of corners and free kicks and had a real shout of a penalty after a well drilled in free kick found the head of Millie Fugler, who got to the header and was taken out by the opposition keeper, with the ref judging it not to warrant a penalty.
When it looked like Barnsley would go into half-time behind a speculative ball towards goal bounced nicely for Aaliyah Nolan, who hit a beautiful first-time shot that nestled into the corner.
Half Time- Wythenshawe 1-1 The Reds
The start of the half couldn’t have started much worse for the Reds as a scrappy piece of football found the hosts number 9, Rachel Dunlop, who buried the finish into the bottom corner.
From that goal, it was the Reds who then took control of the game, forcing the hosts back and pressing really well. They were rewarded when a sublime ball from Milly Wortley found Amber Sewell who ran onto the ball and fired a well drilled shot past the Wythenshawe keeper to equalise.
It felt as though it was a matter of time before the Reds took the lead and after a wave of attacks, a lovely move featuring Jodie Snelson, Aaliyah Nolan, finding Amber Sewell who played a great ball into Milly Wortley who controlled the ball before smashing the ball home.
The Reds had a couple more chances to make the game more comfortable but it was the Reds who sealed the victory, climbing back into second and closing the gap to the league leaders to one point.
Next up for the Reds is a home game against Kidderminster on Sunday 8th November at 2pm.
