Yorkshire Water is investing £6 million in two Rotherham projects designed to improve water quality in the River Don.
The largest scheme is worth £4.75 million at Clifton Park. It will include a new underground storage tank capable of holding 345,000 litres of excess wastewater during heavy rainfall.
Yorkshire Water says the work should reduce annual storm overflow discharges at the site by around 72%.
A further £1.25 million will be spent at Herringthorpe Playing Fields to reduce the amount of rainwater entering the wastewater network.
The Clifton Park work is expected to take around 18 months.
